Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish carried a perfect game into the bottom of the sixth inning and a no-hiiter into the eighth when Houston catcher Carlos Corporan ripped an outside fastball for a home run but won his 12th game of the season striking out 15.
Darvish and closer Joe Nathan combined on a one hitter and the Rangers finished their 10 game road trip with a 9-1 record.
Darvish retired the 17 batters he faced before walking Jonathan Villar on six pitches to break up the perfect game bid and became the first pitcher in the majors this season to hit the 200-strikeout mark, and tied Nolan Ryan for the quickest pitcher in franchise history to accomplish that feat in 23 starts.
The Rangers got a pair of two-out RBI hits by Beltre and A.J. Pierzynski in the first inning for a 2-0 lead, which proved to be the only runs the Rangers scored on the day.
