Kelly Johnson and Yunel Escobar each had an RBI and Roberto Hernandez turned in his strongest effort of the season pitching into the ninth-inning and leading the Tampa Bay Rays over the Miami Marlins 3-1. Tampa Bay won their fourth game in a row, and the Marlins lost their eighth straight game.
Hernandez came into the game having allowed 10 earned runs in six innings in his previous two starts against the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees.
Hernandez allowed three hits in 8 2/3 innings of work and struck out five, and walked none and allowed one unearned run against the Marlins. He retired 26 of the next 27 batters, including 15 in a row at one point.
Fernando Rodney came on to record the last out and his 10th save of the season.
