Oakland Athletics rookie right-hander Dan Straily outdueled Rangers ace Yu Darvish on Tuesday night, turning in his best outing of a rather inconsistent season.
Straily worked seven scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits (both singles) while striking out five batters and allowing no walks.
After a 6.2 inning performance in which he allowed two runs and fanned 11 batters en route to a victory on April 5 (Straily was given the final rotation spot out of spring training in replacement of a suspended Bartolo Colon), Straily was demoted to Triple-A Sacramento with the return of Colon from his 50-day PED suspension.
Aside from a third-inning solo home run to Yoenis Cespedes, Yu Darvish was sharp in his outing against the Atheltics. The Texas ace worked six innings, walking three and striking out five batters en route to his second loss of the season. Darvish now boasts a 7-2 record and a solid 2.84 ERA.
With the win, the Athletics gained one game on the Rangers in the AL West standings, 4.5 games back with a 25-22 record.
