NL Scores: Zimmermann Leads Nats, Padres top Dodgers

Nats NewsJordan Zimmermann threw a six-hitter for his third victory in three starts this season, and Washington beat Miami 10-3. Washington has scored 21 runs in Zimmermann’s starts, and he’s 3-0 for the first time. The nine-inning complete game was his first.  The right-hander struck out six, walked one and threw 102 pitches.

Washington was looking  to come back from the dreadful three-game weekend series with the Atlanta Braves  in which starters Stephen Strasburg and Gio Gonzalez lost. Ryan  Zimmerman had a home run and four RBI for Washington as the Nats pounded Marlins pitching for 16 hits.

San Diego 6 Los Angeles 3  San Diego Padres pitcher Eric Stults hit a three-run homer and pitched six innings for his second win of the season.  this was the first game between the two teams since San Diego outfielder Carlos Quentin charged the mound against the Zack Greinke.  The game was played without incident or carryover.  Carl Crawford had three hits for the Dodgers.

St. Louis 10 Pittsburgh 6 – The  St. Louis Cardinals chased  Pittsburgh starter James McDonald with a seven-run second and then held on for a 10-6 victory.  McDonald lasted just 1 1/3 innings,  giving up eight runs. Allen Craig  At three RBI for St. Louis. Jon Jay and Matt Holliday  added two RBI each.

Cincinnati 4 Philadelphia 2  Brandon Phillips had two hits and two RBI to lead the Cincinnati Reds over the Philadelphia Phillies and Cliff Lee 4-2. Bronson Arroyo pitched eight solid innings for the Reds allowing just two earned runs and striking out three. Aroldis Chapman  struck out to in a perfect ninth inning to record his third save of the season.  Chase Utley homered for the Phillies.  Lee pitched seven innings, scattering five hits and allowing two earned runs while striking out four for Philadelphia.
