Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Yovani Gallardo was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with drunken driving, Fran McLaughlin, sheriff’s office spokeswoman, said another driver called 911 to report a suspected drunken driver.
Gallardo, a 27-year-old right-hander, was driving westbound on Interstate 94 near S. 76th St. when he was pulled over at 2:10 a.m. for driving slowly and deviating lanes. Gallardo failed a field sobriety test and later registered a blood-alcohol level of .22, nearly three times the legal limit in Wisconsin (.08)
Gallardo has been rather ordinary this season pitching to a 6.61 ERA over three starts. He last pitched against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, an 8-0 loss.
In Wisconsin, a first-time drunken driver is issued a ticket, but the sheriff’s office makes it a practice to book all alleged drunken drivers, even those who are not facing misdemeanor charges for repeat offenses, McLaughlin said. The maximum penalty for the ticket is $300.
Combined with a ticket for deviating from his lane, Gallardo will be on the hook for $478.80. Something seem amiss to you?
