Red Sox Sign Picks Michael Chavis, Michael Kopech, Sam Travis

michael-chavisThe Boston Red Sox reached agreement with with three of it top draft picks, Michael Chavis, Michael Kopech, and Sam Travis, from the 2014 MLB Draft.

Chavis, selected 26th overall, agreed to a full-slot bonus of $1,870,500 and will forgo a college career at Clemson.

Chavis hit .580/.663/1.197 with 13 homers, 14 walks and 10 strikeouts in 28 games. Chavis, was a shortstop in high school ball who could transition to third as a professional.

The team also signed compensation pick Michael Kopech.

Kopech, taken 33rd overall, signed a $1,500,000 bonus, just under slot and saving Boston $178,000. Kopech, who was committed to the University of Arizona, becomes the first reported draft signing for Boston.

Boston signed second-round (67th overall) draft pick Sam Travis.

The first baseman signed for the full $846,800 slot price for the 67th overall pick. The 20-year-old entered the draft as a top-100 pick on many of the top draft rankings.
