The Tampa Bay Rays have reached an agreement with catcher Jose Molina on a two-year deal worth $4.5 million according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Earlier this week it was reported that the Rays and Molina were working on a deal to return in 2014.
Molina hit .233./.290/.304 in 99 games for the Rays last season and likely would be teamed again with Jose Lobaton as Tampa Bay’s catching combo. Last season Molina started a career-high 87 games and Lobaton 76.
Defensively Molina had eight passed balls. The Rays like his game-calling and pitch-framing and even with a dropoff to 23.3 percent, he was above average in throwing out runners.
Jose Molina has 2-year agreement with #rays. Said to be for $4.5M for the 2.
