Phillies and Twins make a deal that works for both teams
Ben Revere wont get a chance to play centerfield for the Minnesota Twins after all. The Philadelphia Phillies acquired Revere from the Twins for Vance Worley and pitching prospect Trevor May.
It was believed that Rivere would step in to be the everyday center fielder after Minnesota traded Denard Span to the Washington Nationals for prospect Alex Meyer.
“Ben is an outstanding, young, controllable center fielder who fits nicely with our club,” Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement.
Worley, 25 , has a career ERA of 3.50 pitching in two seasons in the big leagues. Worley battled injuries for most of the season and had surgery on his pitching elbow in September.
May pitched in AA last season and posted a 4.87 ERA.
He was named the Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2011, and currently ranks as the second- ranked prospect in the Phillies system.
The Twins system is starving for young pitching and Philadelphia was in need of a center fielder, so the deal makes sense for both organizations.
