In a season where Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw is putting up stellar performance after stellar performance, much attention has been drawn away from Dodgers rookie starter Hyun-Jin Ryu.
In 7.1 innings of work in Wednesday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers, Ryu surrendered two runs on six hits, while striking out four batters. Much like the rest of his season, Ryu quietly turned in another solid outing and got the victory for the Dodgers, in this case a 9-2 blowout of the Brewers.
Ryu now boasts a 5-2 record and a 3.30 ERA, with a 60/22 strikeout to walk ratio in 62.2 innings of work. Such numbers are relatively solid for any starting pitcher, let alone a rookie.
Los Angeles would add two more runs in the top of the ninth-inning, led by an RBI double by Scott Van Slyke who would come around to score later in the inning on a double play induced by Juan Uribe.
With the 9-2 victory, the Dodgers improved to 19-26 on the season and have now won five of their last ten games.
