Coming off of an extra-innings loss to the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night, Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper was determined to redeem himself following a ninth-inning outfield miscue that would ultimately cost Washington the game.
Following five scoreless innings between both teams on Wednesday, Harper approached the plate in the top of the sixth-inning and slugged a solo home run to left field off of Giants starter Madison Bumgarner, opening up the game and giving the Nationals a 1-0 lead.
An RBI single by Giants catcher Buster Posey in the bottom of the eighth-inning would even the game at 1-1. Neither team would be able to score in the ninth-inning, pushing the game into extra-innings for the second straight game.
Nationals closer Rafael Soriano would pitch a scoreless bottom of the tenth, earning his 13th save of the season and securing a 2-1 victory for Washington.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Nationals and brought them above the .500 mark to a 24-23 record, where they sit second in the NL East standings behind the Atlanta Braves.
