New York 5 – Detroit 6 – Phil Hughes allowed four runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings for the Yankees. Miguel Cabrera hit his 29th home run of the year for the Tigers. Eric Chavez hit his 11th home run in a losing cause. José Valverde earned his 22nd save of the year.
Seattle – Baltimore – Matt Weiters hit two home runs for the Orioles and JJ Hardy added his 16th. Miguel Olivo and Kyle Seager each homered for the Mariners
Toronto 1 – Tampa Bay 4 – James Shields allowed two hits across eight innings of work, and struck out six. Evan Longoria returned to action for the rays and hit a run producing sacrifice fly in the third inning. Desmond Jennings had two hits and two runs scored, B.J. Upton one hit and one run scored. Fernando Rodney worked the ninth to pick up his 33rd save of the season. J.A. Happ allowed four runs on seven hits in just 4 1/3 innings. Colby Rasmus was 2-for-3 with a solo homer that accounted for the Jays’ only run in the game.
Kansas City 5 – Chicago 2 – Billy Butler hit his 22nd home run for the Royals and Gordon Beckham hit his 11th for the White Sox. Bruce Chen got the victory, and Jake Peavy took the loss for the White Sox.
