Mike Trout is having a phenomenal rookie season, batting .357, with 70 runs scored and 31 steals. Trout was five for 10 in the weekend series against the Texas Rangers with a home run and a triple.
Trout will turn 21 years old in August and is trying to become the third youngest player ever to win the batting title, dating back to 1900.
Al Kaline and Ty Cobb both won batting titles at the age of 20. Trout is a leading candidate for AL ROY and AL MVP.
“He’s not Willie Mays,” Washington said after the Angels beat the Rangers 7-4 on Sunday night. “He’s a pretty good player, but I think the comparisons have to stop. Let the kid play. When he’s been here five years, six years, then you can start doing that.” Blair Angulo
We are going to have to agree with “Wash” on this point. Willie Mays would probably be most people’s list for one of the best five players to ever play the game, ever.
Trout has played in 74 games.
Let’s give the kid some room, and just enjoy watching, for now.
