The Cleveland Indians announced that they had finalized an agreement with free-agent outfielder David Murphy on a two-year deal that includes a club option for 2016. The deal is reportedly worth $12 million. The deal was contingent on Murphy passing a physical and the physical is done.
Last season, the 32-year-old Murphy posted career lows in batting average (.220), on-base percentage (.282) and slugging percentage (.374) in 142 games for Texas. Murphy Murphy can play all three outfield positions and will likely platoon in right for Cleveland with Ryan Raburn or Drew Stubbs.
A former first-round pick of Boston, Murphy broke into the majors with the Red Sox in 2006 under current Indians manager Terry Francona.
