The Washington Nationals exploded for 13 runs on Sunday, eight of which came in the final two innings of the game, in a 13-2 rout of the New York Mets at Citi Field.

All the while, Washington starter Gio Gonzalez was dominant, working seven scoreless innings and surrendering just three hits, striking out seven and walking two.
The Nationals would further open up the game in the eighth, which began on a Roger Bernadina ground rule double that scored Werth. Kurt Suzuki would go on to slug a two-run homer, highlighting a six-run inning that put the Nationals on top 11-0.
Ian Desmond would add a two-run shot of his own in the top of the ninth, capping the 13-run effort for the Nationals.
The Mets would try to stage a rally in the bottom of the ninth, as John Buck launched a two-run homer off of Ian Krol, but the effort would only muster two runs, as the Nationals would take the game 13-2 and the three-game series 2 games to 1.
