Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus helped lead the Rangers in their 7-2 victory against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night, collecting a career-high five hits in the process.
Andrus would finish the game going 5 for 5 with a double and triple, while scoring three times and driving in two runs of his own. The Texas shortstop also swiped two bases, raising his season total to 12, and raised his batting average 20 points from .264 to .284.
In addition to Andrus’ contributions, Texas starter Justin Grimm was solid, surrendering two runs over 6.2 innings. First baseman Mitch Moreland added a solo home run in the third-inning off of Detroit starter Anibal Sanchez, his tenth of the season.
Having won eight of their last ten games, the Texas Rangers own the best record in all of baseball, a 28-15 record that is good enough for a 6.5 game lead over the Oakland Athletics in the AL West standings.
