Patrick Corbin has turned into an unlikely ace of the Arizona Diamondbacks pitching staff. Corbin improved to 5-0 by allowing one run in 6 1/3 innings Thursday in a 2-1 win over the Phillies and lowered his ERA to 1.75.
Corbin has pitched at least six innings in all seven of his starts and allowed less than two runs in each of them.. His next start will be against the Atlanta Braves.
Corbin’s start is in a surprise to manager Kirk Gibson. “We’re not surprised. That’s why he’s on the team,” Gibson said. “We’ve got complete confidence in him. He’s thrown the ball this way all year. He’s got a great head on his shoulders. He’s a total pitcher, total ballplayer.”
Fantasy News: Corbin isn’t much of a secret anymore, although I picked him up when he was 3-0 off waivers on one of my teams. He isn’t going to strike out a ton of guys but he isn’t going to walk many either. A WHIP of 1.06 means more wins are on the way. He is obviously not going to go undefeated, and you may be able to find an unhappy owner that day and make a trade.
