Zack Greinke who has been recovering from a broken collarbone is expected to rejoin the Dodgers’ rotation on May 15 for a start against the Nationals. Apparently Greinke must be a quick healer as the injury was projected to keep him out of action for eight weeks, but should this return date stick it will be less than five weeks.
Greinke, is 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA through two starts in the 2013 season before he decided to lower his shoulder to a charging Carlos Quentin.
Greinke is expected to make a rehab start at High-A Rancho Cucamonga and is scheduled to throw 75 pitches. “I don’t know how I’d be throwing over 100 pitches, but throwing 50 to 75 should be pretty easy at this point,” he said after his bullpen session on Tuesday. “I’ve just got to get consistency and be able to get hitters out. That’s what I’m working on in the bullpen, making good pitches. You take some time off, you’re a little rusty.”
Fantasy Play: All that’s left now is for Greinke to show he’s healthy and he will be good to go on Wednesday, May 15. He will likely be limited to a pitch count, but if he comes out of his rehab start good to go you should be safe to plug him back in to your lineup.
