What Nolan Arenado needed most was an opportunity. When the Rockies traded third baseman Chris Nelson to the Yankees Arenado was called up and he is making the move look genius. In just 8 games in the majors Arenado’s has a .323 average and .677 slugging percentage, and fantasy team owners very happy.
He has hit three home runs including his first grand slam off of the Tampa Bay Rays David Price. Arenado showed power in spring training but after a disappointing 2012 campaign that saw him bat .285 with 12 home runs, 56 RBI and a .776 OPS in 573 plate appearances at Double-A Tulsa he was sent back to the minors.
Fantasy play: Finding power hitting third baseman is always a challenge. Arenado isn’t much of a secret anymore owned by 85% of fantasy baseball owners in ESPN leagues, but that doesn’t mean you couldn’t make a trade, but make it soon. His value should only get better from here
