OMAHA, Neb.- If South Carolina wants to three-peat as College World Series Champions, they will have to beat the Arizona Wildcats two straight games. Backed by a complete game by Konner Wade and timely hitting of Robert Refsnyder who hit a home run second game in a row, Arizona beat two-time defending national champion South Carolina 5-1 in the opener of the College World Series.
Wade (11-3) scattered six hits against the Gamecocks, and the Wildcats moved to within a win of their first national championship since 1986. Besides the home run, Refsnyder, batting .444 (8 of 18) in the CWS, went 2 for 3 and was intentionally walked twice. The two teams play again tomorrow at Rosenblatt Stadium
