Earlier today we learned of a report by the Miami New Times that linked New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez to purchases of performance-enhancing drugs from a Miami clinic. the newspaper obtained records that linked A-Rod along with several other major leaguers to Anthony Bosch, a nutritionist who was connected to Manny Ramirez‘s 2009 suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s drug policy.
Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz,Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Melky Cabrera and Washington Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez along with Rodriguez were named in the report. Rodriguez’s full name or nicknames reportedly appeared on 16 occasions in the documents as well as pitcher Bartolo Colon and catcher Yasmani Grandal. Cabrera, Colon, and Grandal all were suspended in 2012 for violating MLB’s performance-enhancing drug policy
Rodriguez has now released a statement through a spokesman that addresses and denies the accusations: “The news report about a purported relationship between Alex Rodriguez and Anthony Bosch are not true. Alex Rodriguez was not Mr. Bosch’s patient, he was never treated by him and he was never advised by him. The purported documents referenced in the story ‐‐ at least as they relate to Alex Rodriguez ‐‐ are not legitimate.”
Rodriguez confessed to using performance-enhancing drugs with that Texas Rangers from 2001-03, while he was playing with the Yankees in 2009. Rodriguez adamantly denies ever using PED’s during his time with the Yankees. Rodriguez has not tested positive for any PED tests, but has been linked in the past to Canadian doctor Anthony Galea, who had been indicted on charges that he distributed HGH to professional athletes.
Rodriguez underwent hip surgery earlier this month as expected to be sidelined until at least July while he recovers.
