The Chicago White Sox have reached agreement with free-agent reliever Matt Lindstrom on a one-year deal for 2013 an option for 2014. The deal is pending a physical. Lindstrom has spent most of his career in the National League, but was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks last season from the Baltimore Orioles who acquired Joe Saunders in the trade.
Lindstrom posted a 2.68 ERA over 47 innings, allowing 45 hits and 14 walks to 40 strikeouts in 2012. White Sox general manager Rick Hahn has been looking to fill the void left in the bullpen when Brett Myers departed via free agency. Lindstrom has 45 saves in six seasons and has a career 3.64 ERA. Lindstrom turns 33 on February 11. White Sox pitchers and catchers are required to report to Arizona for spring training on February 12.
Lindstrom joins a bullpen that features Matt Thornton and Jesse Crain. Addison Reed returns as the White Sox closer. With Hector Santiago, Nate Jones and Donnie Veal, the White Sox bullpen looks to be complete heading into spring training. Hahn is still looking to add another left-handed hitter, preferably an infielder. Starter John Danks is rehabbing his left shoulder, and while reports are good, the bullpen is still subject to change pending on when Danks returns.
