The Detroit Tigers have reached an agreement on a two-year deal with free-agent outfielder Rajai Davis. While several teams were in the mix for Davis, the Tigers were said to be the favorites along with the Minnesota Twins. He would likely serve as the Tigers’ fourth outfielder.
Davis was largely a part time player for the last three seasons in Toronto where he hit .252/.299/.369 and stole 125 bases over that period.
He has been seeking a starting opportunity this offseason.
Davis has played much of his eight-season career in left field, a position that the Tigers need to fill, and may be a platoon partner with left handed hitting Andy Dirks.
Earlier this offseason the Tigers landed Ian Kinsler in a trade with the Texas Rangers for Prince Fielder. The addition of Davis will likely put to an send the pursuit of five-tool star Shin-Soo Choo, who could be headed to the Diamondbaacks or Rangers.
