The Texas Rangers have a completed a trade with he Chicago White Sox that will send outfielder Alex Rios to Texas for either a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Leury Garcia is likely to be the player going to Chicago. The Rangers put a claim in on Rios yesterday.
The trade will help Texas offensively after losing Nelson Cruz to suspension earlier this week. Rios entered Friday hitting .277 with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs.
For Chicago it opens the door for Avisail Garcia who was acquired from the Detroit Tigers in a three-team trade July 30 that sent Jake Peavy to the Boston Red Sox.
“This is for us another step in the process of retooling this club,” White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said. “It’s difficult to let a player like Alex Rios go. He, in my opinion, has been outstanding for us on and off the field during his stay in Chicago. A pure class act.”
