Phillies Reach Agreement With Chase Utley on Extension

Phillies NewsThe Philadelphia Phillies have reached an agreement with second baseman Chase Utley on an extension that will keep him with the team through the 2015 season at the minimum. The deal will be worth between $27 million guaranteed with multiple vesting options  according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Utley is in the final year of a seven-year $85 billion contract and is hitting .275/.336/.505 batting line with 15 home runs and 42 RBI in 83 games this year.

The vesting options of the new deal are contingent on Utley staying healthy, something the veteran second baseman has had difficulty accomplishing, averaging 100 games per season over the last three seasons.
