After being released by the Kansas City Royals earlier this month, Jeff Francoeur would experience free agency for just a short period as the San Francisco Giants have reached an agreement with Francoeur, according to a report by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
After a month of April in which he batted .261 (23-for-88) with an OBP/SLG/OPS line of .293/.375/.668, Francoeur followed up with an even poorer showing throughout the months of May and June.
Francoeur batted .162 in May and .148 in June, posting a .208 batting average with three home runs and 13 RBI in 59 games before his release in early July.
After a successful first season with the Royals in 2011 in which he batted .285 with 20 home runs and 87 RBI, Kansas City signed him to a two-year, $13.5 million extension, approximately $3.2 million of which the Giants will be forced to pick up in signing the former-Royal.
Rosenthal reports that Francoeur will most likely be used to platoon in the outfield with Andres Torres, as Francoeur should bring a valuable glove to an outfield that has struggled with defensive performance this season.
