Boston Red Sox Walk-Off on Fielding Error in 5-4 Victory

Red Sox NewsThe Boston Red Sox grabbed the victory on Sunday in unorthodox fashion, but nonetheless got the 5-4 victory and took the four-game series 3-1 against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park.

Boston was the first on the scoreboard, scoring three runs in the second on a pair of doubles, an RBI ground rule double by Ryan Lavarnway and a two-run double by Brandon Snyder, scoring Daniel Nava and Lavarnway for the early 3-0 lead. Boston would add a fourth run in the fifth on another RBI double, this one by Jonny Gomes.

Toronto scored two in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Colby Rasmus and a Maicer Izturis fielder’s choice that allowed Rajai Davis to score. The Blue Jays would add a third run in the seventh on a solo shot by Jose Reyes, shrinking the lead to 4-3.

With one out in the top of the ninth, Jose Bautista launched his 19th home run of the season, a solo shot over the Green Monster to tie the ball game at 4-4.

In the bottom of the ninth, Jonathan Diaz came in to pinch run for Brandon Snyder, as Boston had runners on first and second with just one out in the inning.

Shane Victorino would follow with a hard-hit grounder to first baseman Josh Thole who would be unable to handle the ball, allowing Diaz to score from second and grab the walk-off victory for Boston.

With the 5-4 victory, Boston reached the 50-win mark, improving to a 50-34 record and improving their lead to three games over the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East standings.
