Texas Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland is on his way home to have an MRI on an aching right hamstring suffered in a game against the Boston Red Sox. Moreland injured the leg while running out a double during the Rangers 3-2 win over the Red Sox on Wednesday night. He slowed down noticeably between first and second base.
Jeff Baker will get the start at first base Thursday against the Red Sox, and Lance Berkman could see some time at first base as well. Should Moreland require a trip to the DL, the Rangers have options in the minor leagues, most notably prospect Mike Olt.
Morland is hitting .288 with 12 home runs and 29 RBI in 2013. The Rangers lead the American League West by game and a half over the Oakland Atletics with a 36-22 record, and are 5-5 over their last 10 games.
