Doug Fister K’s 12 In TIgers Loss to Pirates

Detroit Tigers newsDetroit Tigers starter Doug Fister  struck out 12 batters in seven innings and allowed four hits, but it was a Russell Martin bases loaded single in the bottom of the 11th inning that gave the Pittsburgh Pirates a 1-0 win over the Tigers.

Neil Walker led off the 11th with a single to right field off Tigers relief pitcher Luke Putkonen, who then walked Andrew McCutchen on four pitches.

Gaby Sanchez singled past a diving Miguel Cabrera at third base to load the bases. That set up Martin for the game-winning hit.

The Pirates improved to 34-20 with their 16th win in their last 20 games.  The Tigers lost their third straight.

Jeff Locke pitched into the sixth inning for Pittsburgh allowing seven hits, no runs and struck out three.  Reliever Brian Morris got to win
