Detroit Tigers starter Doug Fister struck out 12 batters in seven innings and allowed four hits, but it was a Russell Martin bases loaded single in the bottom of the 11th inning that gave the Pittsburgh Pirates a 1-0 win over the Tigers.
Neil Walker led off the 11th with a single to right field off Tigers relief pitcher Luke Putkonen, who then walked Andrew McCutchen on four pitches.
Gaby Sanchez singled past a diving Miguel Cabrera at third base to load the bases. That set up Martin for the game-winning hit.
The Pirates improved to 34-20 with their 16th win in their last 20 games. The Tigers lost their third straight.
