Giancarlo Stanton is making progress towards returning from the disabled list. Stanton took batting practice for the first time at Marlins Park since straining his right hamstring on April 30. Marlins manager Mike Redmond was encouraged by the progress.
“He looked good,” Redmond said, “like he was feeling all right. I didn’t ask him afterwards; I’m just going off the results. He was hitting them out. It’s another encouraging sign that he’s a little closer to being back on the field.”
The next step for Stanton will be to include running in baseball activities. While there is still no firm timetable for his return or when he might begin a minor-league rehab assignment, the Marlins feel it’s more important not to rush the young slugger.
“We want to make sure that he’s 100 percent and we have him for the rest of the year,” Redmond said. “We don’t want to rush him.” Stanton Is one of the 11 Marlins players currently on the disabled list.
