James Loney went 2- for-4 and homered for the second day in a row to help the Tampa Bay Rays beat the San Diego Padres 4-2 and complete a three-game sweep.
Loney is now hitting 376/.429/.560 with three home runs and 20 RBI in 37 games. Loney, 29, is a .285/.342/.423 career hitter in the majors.
Tampa Bay has now won five games in a row and seven out of their last 10. The Rays will be off on Monday and start a three-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.
Loney is hitting .526 against left-handers and .337 against right-handers and has settled in nicely on most days in the lineup behind Evan Longoria.
Fantasy Note: To expect Loney to continue this kind of htting is a bit unrealistic, but today I couldn’t take it anymore and picked him up. Held by only 22% of ESPN fantasy league owners Loney is very much available and to have a regular player hitting .376 on the waiver wire just isn’t right.
