Joba Chamberlain left a hole in the Yankees’ vaunted bullpen when he injured himself on May 2nd with an Olique strain. The good news, much like last season when he recovered quickly, is Chamberlain should be able to return when he is first eligible from the 15 day Disabled List.
Though nothing is guaranteed until he’s back on the mound, Manager, Joe Girardi, does not feel Chamberlain will have any lingering effects.
Fantasy Play: In K/9 or leagues heavy on strikeouts, Chamberlain is a cheap addition who can have an impact. Though Yankees’ closer, Mariano Rivera, is set to retire at the end of the year, the Yankees would appear to have better options to replace him, not to mention Chamberlain is in his own year of free agency at the end of the season. Pick him up to vulture a category here and there, but don’t waste the waiver move under any other circumstances.
