Tampa Bay Rays Luke Scott Set To Return From DL

Rays NewsTampa Bay Rays DH Luke Scott is in Kansas City and will be activated off the DL for tonight’s game, with Shelley Duncan expected to be released  to make room for the oft injured Scott, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times

Scott has been out since straining his right calf in late March and went 4-for-18 in five rehab games for advanced Class A Charlotte. Duncan, who hit .182 in 20 games, is out of options, so the Rays will have to risk losing him on waivers.

The 34-year-old Scott is a .260/.341/.487 hitter in his eight years in the major leagues.

“This guy’s a good RBI guy,” Joe Maddon said of Scott. “Now what James Loney‘s doing is a little interesting, because it’s a little different than what we intended. Again, it goes back to that swarming offense I’ve been thinking about. You saw it last night and that’s what it has the ability to look like.”

Of course Maddon’s vision depends on Scott staying healthy and his track record as a member of the Rays wont overwhelm anyone with confidence.
