The Tampa Bay Rays added Shelley Duncan and RHP Jamey Wright and Luke Scott was officially placed on the 15 day disabled list. The Rays made room on the 40 man roster by designating for assignment Stephen Vogt and Robinson Chirinos. Brandon Guyer and Chris Gimenez were among the other in-house options for Tampa Bay.
Scott is expected to miss 2 to 3 weeks, optimistically and maybe as many as five weeks. The Rays also added Juan Oviedo yo the 40-man roster and placed on the 60-day disabled list due to his recent Tommy John surgery.
Rays GM Andrew Friedman said the team chose Duncan based on his power potential. Duncan hit 11 home runs for the Cleveland Indians in 2012 in 264 plate appearances.
Wright spent 2012 with the Los Angeles Dodgers pitching to a 3.72 ERA and a 5-3 record. Wright struggled during the spring keeping the ball down, Giving up four home runs over 11 innings of work with a 7.36 ERA. Wright will provide middle relief for Tampa Bay.
