Jackie Bradley Jr. was told by manager John Farrell that he had made the team on a team flight on the way to New York on Saturday night. Bradley hit .419 in 28 games during spring training with a .507 on-base percentage and a .633 slugging percentage.
Bradley will start Monday night against the Yankees in left field. “Our intentions were for him to start the season in the minor leagues,” Farrell said. “But I didn’t want to put a ceiling on the guy.”
Boston designated Mauro Gomez for assignment to make room for Bradley on the 40 man roster. Boston also placed LHP Craig Breslow, LHP Franklin Morales, and David Ortiz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22.
Boston opens the season against the Yankees with Jon Lester taking the hill for the Red Sox and CC Sabathia on the mound for New York.
