The Dominican Republic beat Puerto Rico for the third time in the tournament 3-0 to win 2013 World Baseball Classic. The Dominican Republic captured the first two games, winning 4-2 in the first round in San Juan and 2-0 in the second round in Miami. Puerto Rico had a 5-3 record with their other loss coming against the United States in the second round.
Minnesota Twins right-hander Samuel Deduno pitched five shutout innings allowing just two hits while striking out five and walking three. Octavio Dotel, Pedro Strop , Santiago Casilla and Fernando Rodney finished off the final four innings allowing just one more hit for the Puerto Ricans.Angel Pagan, Mike Aviles and Jesus Feliciano had the only three hits for Puerto Rico.
Edwin Encarnacion doubled to deep center in the first inning to score Jose Reyes and Robinson Cano to take a 2-0 lead. The Dominicans added a run in the fifth when Erick Aybar doubled to score Alejandro De Aza.
