WBC 2013: Dominican Republic Rallies Late To Beat USA

WBC NewsErik Aybar delivered a pinch-hit in the top of the ninth inning to score Nelson Cruz to break a 1-1 tie  and the Dominican Republic went on to beat team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Jose Reyes then followed with a single to score Aybar who had stolen second base a pitch earlier to make the score 3-1. Fernando Rodney  came on in teh ninth to record the save and preserve teh win for the Dominican Republic.

David Wright was a late scratch with sore ribs. “For about a week now, I’ve had some discomfort in my rib area,” he said. “Every time I go in and get treatment for something like that, the team finds out about it, which is correct Wright had 10 RBI in four WBC games and will return to Mets camp for further examinatrion by team doctors.

R.A. Dickey pitched five strong innings for Team USA. The Dominican Republic advances to the next round in San Francisco,  while Puerto Rico and Team USA play for the right to advance to the next round tomorrow night.
