Puerto Rico plated three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to complete a rally from a three-run deficit and eliminate Italy from the World Baseball Classic. Mike Aviles started the scoring in the eighth with a fielders choice scoring Carlos Beltran.
Aviles came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Luis Figueroa and Alex Rios Scored on an infield hit by Andy Gonzalez the third run in the eighth. J.C. Romero came on in the ninth And struck out Nick Punto and Chris Denoforia. After walking Rizzo, Fernando Cabrera came on to get Alex Liddi on a swinging strikeout and again.
Anthony Rizzo doubled in three runs for Italy in the top of the fifth inning to account for all the scoring for Italy., Anthony Granato, Nick Punto scores and Chris Denorfia scored.
