Cleveland Indians outfielder Michael Brantley hit .288 last year was 60 RBI so when Indians skipper Terry Francona saw Brantley walking off the field with his arm dangling at his side was a bit concerned.
Brantley was hurt when A’s third baseman Josh Donaldson stepped on Brantley’s arm when the young outfielder attempted to take advantage of an overthrow and advance to third base. Brantley was cut and received stitches in his left forearm.
“I don’t know how many stitches and you never like any injury, but in this case there was some relief on my part,” Indians manager Terry Francona said.
Manwhile the Indians moved to 5-0 in spring training action with a 14-10 victory over Oakland. Justin Masterson was perfect over two innings of work in his first start of the spring.
“Today, it was two innings, nice and easy,” Masterson said. “I was able to finish off pitches. I kept the ball on the ground and that is nice. It’s good to have it in the zone and not get crushed. I had the sinker going and that’s a good thing, especially in Arizona.”
