The Toronto Blue Jays announced they have signed veteran infielder Mark DeRosa to a one-year deal worth $750,000. The deal includes a 2014 club option for the same amount. DeRosa spent 2012 with the Washington Nationals. DeRosa suffered through injuries and personal troubles including the passing of his father. DeRosa appeared in 48 games and hit .188 in 85 at-bats.
DeRosa has played 15 seasons with, the Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants, and the Nationals. DeRosa has a career average of .270 with 92 runs and 458 RBI. DeRosa turns 38 next month
DeRosa comes with a reputation of being a leader in the clubhouse and was among the more popular players in 2012 for Washington. The Blue Jays cleared a spot on the roster for DeRosa by designating for assignment righthander Sam Dyson.
