Signing Blanton essentially ends the Angels pursuit of Greinke
As much as the Los Angeles Angels may have wanted to sign Zack Greinke, it would appear that’s not going to happen.
The Angels agreed to terms with free-agent right-hander Joe Blanton on a two-year $15 million deal that on paper, solidifies the Angels rotation for 2013, minus Greinke.
Blanton went 10-13 with a 4.71 ERA for the Phillies and Dodgers last season
Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson, Tommy Hanson, Blanton, and Garrett Richards will make up the starting rotation. Jerome Williams will compete for a spot as well.
Earlier today the Angels signed free-agent reliever Sean Burnett as a left-handed specialist to go with Ryan Madson, Ernesto Frieri, Kevin Jepsen and Scott Downs In the bullpen.
