Moore congratulated after his two out two RBI hit

The Washington Nationals rallied for two runs in the eighth inning to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 in the first game of  their  National League Division Series. The Nationals overcame a somewhat shaky start by 21 game winner Gio Gonzalez who walked seven and allowed two runs in five innings of work.

Pinch hitter Tyler Moore had a  two-out, two-run single in the eighth.

Tyler Clippard pitched around an error in the eighth and Drew Storen saved it with a perfect ninth inning.

Adam Wainwright pitched into the sixth inning for the Cardinals allowing just one earned run and while scattering six hits. He struck out 10. David Freese had two hits for the Cardinals and Ian Desmond had three hits for the Nationals.
