Orioles now tied With Yankees
Baltimore 12 – Toronto 0 – Mark Reynolds hit a three-run homer, Zach Britton pitched seven innings and the Baltimore Orioles moved into a tie with the New York Yankees for first place in the American League East. Reynolds went 3 for 4 with four RBI. Nick Markakis had three hits, Adam Jones and J.J. Hardy had two hits for Baltimore. Rookie Manny Machado added three hits and two runs for the Orioles. Coupled with a loss by the Yankees to Tampa Bay the Orioles have a share of first place for the first time since 1997 in September.
Longoria, Upton lead Rays over Yankees
New York 2 – Tampa Bay 5 – Alex Cobb pitched seven effective innings for Tampa Bay and Evan Longoria, Desmond Jennings, and B.J. Upton all homered to leave the race over the Yankees 5-2. Robinson Cano hit a two-run homer in the first inning to give the Yankees their only runs of the game.
Masterson Masters Tigers lineup
Cleveland 3 – Detroit 2 – Justin Masterson pitched six solid innings and the Cleveland Indians beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2, Miguel Cabrera. Three run homer for Detroit. Asdrubal Cabrera and Carlos Santana had two hits apiece for the Indians
Minnesota doubles up Chicago
Royals and Guthrie beat Rangers
Texas 3 – Kansas City 6 – Jeremy Guthrie pitched seven strong innings and Alex Gordon and Johnny Giavotella homered to lead the Royals to a 6-3 victory over the Rangers. Elivs Andrus homered for the Rangers and Josh Hamilton had two hits. Matt Harrison took his knife loss of the season pitching 4 2/3 innings and allowing five runs, three earned.
