At the trade deadline the Texas Rangers were reluctant to include infielder Jurickson Profar as a part of any deal and with good reason.
Profar is the No. 1 ranked prospect in the Rangers organization and ranked No. 4 overall by MLB.Com. Profar is hitting .283 with 13 home runs, 69 runs scored and 60 RBI in 110 games for Frisco.
He has a .362 on-base percentage and a .463 slugging percentage. According T.R. Sullivan, Profar could be called up to the Rangers as early as next week. If you want to read between the lines, Rangers manager Ron Washington is making his plea.
Mike Olt has been working out at shortstop in the event of an emergency, but still the Rangers are thin at middle infield. Profar can’t play both shortstop and second base. Profar represented the Texas Rangers in the Futures Game earlier this summer.
Profar was No. 2 on Baseball America’s Mid-Season Top 50 Prospects List while Olt was No. 11. Both are considered top-level prospects.
