NL Recaps – Hamels Throws 2nd Straight Shutout in Win over Marlins

"<strongCole Hamels Phillies News” width=”300″ height=”225″ />Philadelphia 4 – Miami 0  – Cole Hamels tossed his second straight shutout, a 4-0 win over the Miami Marlins. in his last three starts Hamels  is 2-1 with a 0.72 ERA. He has struck out 20 and walked two. Domonic Brown had two hits for the Phillies. Chase Utley and Juan Pierre had an RBI each to provide all the support Hamels would need. Nathan Eovaldi pitched five innings allowing three runs – two earned – on eight hits and three walks.

Los Angeles 5 – Pittsburgh 4 – Shane Victorino hit his first Dodgers home run, a two-run blast,while also adding an RBI double. Gary Jones had four hits and drove in three runs for the Pirates. Aaron Harang turned in a quality start for the Dodgers. Jeff Karstens allowed four runs in seven innings, while striking out four for the Pirates

San Diego 4 – Atlanta 1 – Eric Stults pitched into the eighth inning allowing just one run and scattering five hits to beat the Atlanta Braves 4-1 . Chase Headley homered and drove in two runs for the Padres

Houston 1 – Chicago 7Alfonso Soriano hit his 21st home run, Darwin Barney also homered and the Cubs beat the Astros 7-1 . Jeff Samardzija pitched seven innings giving up one earned run, walking three, and striking out 11

Milwaukee 6  – Colorado 9  – Carlos Gomez went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer for the Brewers.  D.J. LeMahieu went 4-for-4 with two RBI for the Rockies

Washington 14 – San Francisco 2 –  Gio Gonzalez won his 15th game of the year holding the Giants to two runs. Over 6 2/3 innings. Ryan Vogelsong gave up eight runs in 2 2/3 innings, easily his worst start of the year. Kurt Suzuki went 3-for-6 and collected his first four RBI. Danny Espinosa went 4-for-6 with a homer and three RBI
