NEW YORK – the Washington Nationals may have decided to limit Stephen Strasburg‘s innings this year, but there is no limit to his ability.
Strasburg struck out 11 New York Mets in seven innings, and Michael Morse and Danny Espinosa hit home runs to complete a sweep of the Mets 5-2 .
Strasburg allowed one earned run and did not walk a batter. Tyler Clippard picked up his 18th save of the year for the Nationals.
“That’s him, that’s the way he should pitch. He was very pitch efficient from the get-go. He went right after guys,” Johnson said. “He’s still learning how to pitch in this league. … He’s still a work in progress.”
The Mets are 1-11 since the All-Star break. “We’re going to get through it. You will see a different team in the next 10 days, the next two weeks,” manager Terry Collins said. “We’re through making excuses.”
