NL Recaps – Cardinals Score 12 Runs in One Inning – Torch Cubs

Jake Westbrook newsST. LOUIS –  The St. Louis Cardinals scored 12 runs in one inning,  tied a 76-year-old major league record with seven doubles in one inning and beat the Chicago Cubs 12-0.

The 12 runs scored in the seventh inning were scored without the benefit of a home run. Skip Sshumaker had two hits and three RBI.

Matt Holliday had two RBI. David Freese had three hits and two RBI.

Cardinals starter Jake Westbrook pitched seven innings, and gave up just three hits. The Cubs would finish tonight for his overall.

Cubs starter Matt Garza, who has been the subject of trade rumors recently, left the game after three innings of work with strained biceps.

Cubs relievers James Russell and Manny Corpas surrendered 10 of the 12 runs scored by the Cardinals.
