DETROIT – Rick Porcello faced Chris Sale and the odds were against for Porcello. Sale allowed five runs and seven hits in seven innings of work. He struck out six and walked four.
Porcello pitched into the ninth-inning allowing just one earned run and the Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago White Sox to take over first place in the American League Central Division.
The Tigers not White Sox pitching around for 10 hits. Austin Jackson drove in four runs and Brennan Boesch hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning.
However the Tigers have played well of late, winning seven of their last nine games since the All-Star break.
