Andre Ethier has spent his entire seven-year major league career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ethier year would have become a free agent after the 2012 season, however, the Dodgers and Ethier have agreed to a five-year contract extension that would guarantee him $85 million.
Reportedly the deal also includes a $17.5 million vesting option for a sixth year with a $2.5 million buyout. Starting next season, Ethier’s annual salaries will be $13.5 million, $15.5 million, $18 million, $18 million and $17.5 million. The $17.5 million option for 2018 will vest with a certain number of plate appearances.
The deal is expected to be formally announced on Tuesday. the deal would be the third-largest and Dodgers history, behind Matt Kemp at $160 million and Kevin Brown at $105 million. Ethier, 30, is a two-time All-Star. He entered Monday’s game batting .292 with 10 home runs and a league-leading 52 RBI in 60 games.
