AL Recaps – Pettitte and Yanks Smack Rays

NEW YORK  –  Andy Pettitte was dominant against the Tampa Bay Rays and Russell Martin hit a grand slam in the fourth inning against Rays starter James Shields. The Yankees cruised to a 7-0  victory Tuesday night. Pettitte pitched into the eighth inning and struck out 10. He allowed only two hits and walked two.

The Rays committed 3 errors in the game and now I have allowed 31 unearned runs this season.  the rays allowed 38 unearned runs all last season. The two teams resume their three-game series tomorrow night in Yankee Stadium.

CHICAGO  – Toronto Blue Jays starter Ricky Romero picked up his seventh win against the Chicago White Sox 9-5 . Colby Rasmus hit a home run and went five for 52 leads Toronto’s 13 hit attack.

BOSTON – Jim Johnson gave up a two-run homer to Jarrod Saltalammachia in the ninth-inning and recorded his first blown save opportunity. Instead Johnson got his first win with a perfect 10th inning and the Orioles rallied against Red Sox closer Alfredo Aceves to win 8-6

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Bruce Chen allowed four hits in seven innings of work, and struck out five and the Kansas City Royals held on for a 1-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Twins starter Francisco Liriano struck out eight over six innings in his return to the starting rotation, but it wasn’t enough,

DETROIT – Ubaldo Jimenez pitched into the seventh inning, striking out four and allowing just one run as the Cleveland Indians beat the Detroit Tigers 4-2. the Tigers are now five games under 500, after being favored by most prognosticators to win the American League Central.
