Bryce Harper, 19-year-old outfielder, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 amateur draft, will be recalled by the Washington Nationals from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday. Harper will join the nationals in Los Angeles for the weekend series against the Dodgers.
He will take the roster spot third baseman Ryan Zimmerman who was placed on the 15 day disabled list with a bad right shoulder, ( inflammation) . General manager of the Nationals Mike Rizzo said “Suffice it to say, this isn’t the coming-out party for Bryce that we had in mind, this isn’t the optimal situation developmentally.”
Harper is widely regarded as a top prospect in baseball. Manager Davey Johnson said, that the team needs a left-handed bat and is hopeful that Harper can offer the left-handed presence in the lineup that the team needs.
You can expect Harper to play right away as Rizzo was quoted as saying, “We didn’t bring Bryce up there to sit on the bench. He’s going to get every-day reps and get ample at-bats.”
Although he is 19 years old, Harper is not short of its. Never has been.
There are not many players that have come up in recent years to receive the attention that Harper has.
Seemingly he is immune to pressure. Starting Saturday night he will find out what life is like in the major leagues.
